BABY MATHLETICS: SHAPES

Baby Mathletics: Shapes is the launch title for a new app brand for 3P Learning. It’s an app designed for very young people aged between 0 and 2 years of age. We pitched the concept to 3P who immediately got on board with it. Each of the Baby Mathletics apps is built to be the digital equivalent of a board book. Board books are a print publishing standard for toddlers, they are always 12 pages in length and printed on heavy duty cardboard.

Baby Mathletics: Shapes is designed to be a sneaky game disguised as a board book. Each reading session contains six puzzles, in which the goal for the reader is to tap a shape which matches a hole in the page. When the reader picks the right shape, the page explodes with life – transforming into a picture built out of shapes. When one of the shapes is touched, the app tells the reader which shape it is, and highlights all the other examples of this shape in the picture – the intention is for the child to see that the world is full of shapes. Parents are encouraged to record their voices into the app, so that when their child touches a shape, it is their parent’s voice which they hear from the device.
